Sinecio Morales is an American student and academic competitor from Rockford, Illinois, known for his strong academic record, competitive quiz bowl success, and early involvement in research and cultural fields. He first gained local attention as a student at Auburn High School in Rockford, where he earned a perfect score of 36 on the ACT, an achievement accomplished by less than one percent of test-takers nationwide. Morales reported that he did not actively study for the test, explaining that studying for standardized exams sometimes made him more confused. His achievement drew praise from his family, particularly his father, Victor Morales, and his mother, Deverne Morales, a retired nurse whose medical career helped inspire his early interest in healthcare and science. Morales is the youngest of two sons and grew up in a family that emphasized education, faith, and community service. He has described his identity as both Black and Puerto Rican and has spoken about appreciating his mixed cultural background.

During high school, Morales excelled academically and in extracurricular activities. He competed in Quizbowl and Scholastic Bowl competitions starting in middle school and became a generalist competitor with knowledge across subjects including science, literature, mythology, and geography. At Auburn High School, he served as captain of the Scholastic Bowl team and helped lead the team to the Illinois state championship in 2023. The team defeated Barrington High School in the state final, and Morales later competed in individual national-level quiz competitions. Outside of academics, he studied violin, played drums at his church, attended weekly Bible study, and participated in outreach programs that supported a homeless shelter and a women and children’s crisis center. As a teenager he also worked part-time at local restaurants including MOD Pizza and Culver’s.

After graduating from Auburn High School in 2023, Morales enrolled at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering with interdisciplinary interests that also include art history, materials science, and art conservation. While at Johns Hopkins he has worked in several academic and research roles. He has served as a Learning Den Tutor providing one-on-one tutoring in subjects such as Python programming, calculus, chemistry, and physics. Morales also worked as an undergraduate researcher at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in the Ravosa Functional Anatomy and Evolution Lab, gaining experience with animal models, cell culture procedures, and scientific literature review. In addition, he completed a biomedical research internship through the SMaRT program at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford, where he worked on the development and testing of saliva-based biosensors designed to predict strokes.

Morales has also developed an interest in art and museum work. He worked as a Visual Resources Collection Assistant at Johns Hopkins, helping digitize images, catalogue art objects, and manage archival materials. In 2025 he served as a Robert and Nancy Hall Curatorial Fellow at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, working with curators of Asian and European art to conduct research, update collection catalog entries, and support scholarly inquiries related to museum objects. Alongside his academic work he contributes as a question writer for National Academic Quiz Tournaments and serves as a co-founder and board member of the Core Ministries Foundation, a youth-led Christian nonprofit in Rockford that organizes programs such as reading initiatives, clothing drives, food drives, toy drives, and college readiness activities for local youth.

Morales has indicated interests spanning biomedical research, art conservation, museum curation, and cultural preservation. He has continued pursuing academic opportunities related to these fields and announced plans to begin a Master of Library and Information Science program at the University of Maryland.
