Adam Remsen Jeopardy Contestant Profile
Adam Remsen is an American attorney, theater producer, nonprofit arts administrator, actor, director, playwright, and business executive based in Memphis, Tennessee. He is best known as the co-founder and president of Quark Theatre, a Memphis-based nonprofit theater company that he established in 2015 alongside his wife Louisa Koeppel and fellow theater artist Tony Isbell. Quark Theatre was created to bring thoughtful, challenging, and often underproduced contemporary plays to Memphis audiences under the motto “small plays about big ideas.” Since its founding, Remsen has played a major role in the organization’s artistic and administrative operations, overseeing legal matters, nonprofit compliance, grant applications, licensing, finances, and occasionally directing and performing in productions. In 2026, Quark Theatre announced a significant milestone by becoming a resident company of TheatreWorks after spending a decade at TheatreSouth.
Outside of theater, Remsen has built a substantial legal career spanning nearly two decades. He currently serves as Staff Attorney for Regional One Health, a position he began in February 2025. His previous legal positions include Outside General Counsel for MSH International, Senior Associate Attorney at The Crone Law Firm, Procurement Specialist at the University of Memphis, and founder of his own practice, Remsen Legal Services. His legal work has focused on contracts, employment law, intellectual property, corporate formation, compliance, procurement, negotiations, and business consulting. Earlier in his career he served as Associate General Counsel for Financial Institution Consulting Corporation and worked with Legility on corporate legal projects.
Before becoming deeply involved in theater, Remsen was active in the Memphis filmmaking community for approximately a decade. According to Quark Theatre, he transitioned into live theater around 2011 and has since appeared in numerous productions. He was most recently noted as appearing in Quark’s production of Years to the Day and later wrote and directed Not Alone Unhappy, a trio of interconnected short plays that premiered in 2025. The production explored themes of mortality, human connection, and meaning through dark comedy and surreal storytelling. Remsen also performed in the production alongside fellow cast members.
Academically, Remsen holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, earned between 2004 and 2007. Prior to law school, he completed a Master of Arts in English Language and Literature at the University of Memphis and earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature from the University of Georgia. He is licensed to practice law in Tennessee and has professional proficiency in French.
In his personal life, Remsen is married to Louisa Koeppel, who is also a co-founder of Quark Theatre. The couple has a son named Felix. Outside of his professional and theatrical pursuits, he enjoys baking, photography, and spending time with his family.
