Mandy Moreno Jeopardy Contestant Profile
Mandy Moreno is a social psychologist, consumer insights executive, researcher, fitness coach, and former competitive roller derby athlete based in Brooklyn, New York. She has built a career combining academic expertise in social psychology with consumer behavior research, market insights, and product development for major corporations. Moreno earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Evansville before completing a Ph.D. in Social Psychology at Rutgers University–New Brunswick. Early in her career she worked in academia as a tenure-track psychology instructor at Hudson County Community College, where she taught courses including abnormal psychology, introduction to psychology, and lifespan development while serving as co-adviser to the Psi Beta Honor Society and the Psychology Club.
After transitioning into the private sector, Moreno established herself as an expert in consumer insights and behavioral research. She worked as a Survey Research Associate at Consumers Union, designing and analyzing product and service surveys that supported Consumer Reports and ShopSmart magazine while contributing research for consumer advocacy initiatives. She later became Insights Manager at Social Media Link, directing quantitative research programs for a word-of-mouth marketing startup before launching her own consulting business, providing consumer research and survey design services for clients across media, retail, entertainment, sports, and technology industries. Since 2019 she has worked in senior consumer insights roles, first at International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF), where she designed consumer testing programs for fragrances used in haircare, body wash, deodorants, and other personal care products using methodologies such as ethnography, home-use tests, sensory evaluation, concept testing, and online surveys. In February 2024 she joined Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits as Senior Manager of Consumer Insight, leading consumer research initiatives for one of the United States’ largest wine and spirits companies.
Outside of her corporate career, Moreno became widely known in New York City’s roller derby community under the skating name “Dainty Inferno.” She competed for the Bronx Gridlock, one of the home teams in Gotham Girls Roller Derby, during the sport’s resurgence in the late 2000s and early 2010s. As both a competitor and media representative, she advocated for roller derby to be recognized as a legitimate, disciplined athletic competition rather than a novelty sport. Her appearances in publications including the New York Daily News and Getty Images highlighted her efforts to change public perceptions of women participating in full-contact sports.
Moreno is also an experienced CrossFit coach and strength trainer. Holding CrossFit Level 1 Trainer and CrossFit Mobility Trainer certifications, along with CPR/AED certification, she has coached athletes while using her background in psychology to address body image, motivation, and the mental barriers many women experience around strength training. Featured by outlets including Refinery29, she has argued against stereotypes that weightlifting makes women “too bulky” and instead promotes body neutrality, confidence, and individual fitness goals over appearance-based standards.
Professionally, Moreno possesses extensive expertise in qualitative and quantitative research, UX research, insight generation, human behavior, research planning, product research, and consumer analytics. She is fluent in both English and Spanish and remains active in the consumer insights industry. In June 2026, she fulfilled a lifelong ambition by appearing as a contestant on Jeopardy!, describing the experience as a dream come true and praising the show’s production team and fellow contestants for their kindness and support.
