Lee Ann McGuire Whitlock Jeopardy Contestant Profile

Lee-Ann McGuire Whitlock is a Canadian author, former lawyer, serial entrepreneur, and trivia champion from North Vancouver, British Columbia. Before becoming a full-time novelist, she built a career as an attorney while also launching several successful businesses, giving her a diverse professional background that later informed her fiction writing. Known for her strong analytical skills, she is a multi-time national pub trivia champion and previously appeared as a civilian contestant on the U.S. game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. She attended Argyle Secondary School in North Vancouver before studying Political Studies at Queen’s University.

Whitlock writes psychological thrillers under the shared pen name Rachel McGuire, collaborating with co-author Rachel Graham. Their partnership combines Whitlock’s legal expertise with Graham’s background as a former firefighter, paramedic, and clinical researcher, allowing the pair to create intricate suspense novels despite living thousands of miles apart. While Whitlock divides her time between Arkansas in the United States and Vancouver, Canada, Graham is based in San Diego, California, and the pair coordinate remotely throughout the writing process.

The duo’s debut novel, On the Surface, was published by Crooked Lane Books on July 9, 2024. Set primarily in the Bahamas, the psychological thriller explores the world of liveaboard sailors and “cruiser culture,” following a successful YouTube influencer couple documenting their sailing adventures before the mysterious disappearance of one partner after a boat party. The novel also examines internet sleuthing, social media fame, and society’s fascination with true crime. Upon release, Amazon recognized it as one of its “Best Mystery, Thriller, and Suspense Books.” The 304-page novel is available in hardcover, eBook, and audiobook editions through major retailers.

Away from writing, Whitlock is married to Shane Whitlock, and together they have two children and two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. She maintains strong ties to her local literary community by appearing at book festivals, including West Vancouver’s Harmony Arts Festival, and participating in events hosted by the North Vancouver City Library. She and Rachel Graham are currently developing their second psychological suspense novel, continuing their collaboration under the Rachel McGuire pen name.
