Jason Vincze Jeopardy Contestant Profile
Jason Vincze is a bar owner and hospitality entrepreneur based in New York City who appears on Jeopardy! as a contestant from New York, New York. He is the owner and creator of Bar Andiamo, an Upper East Side café, wine bar and cocktail bar that opened in April 2026. Vincze’s route into hospitality was unusually indirect: before opening his own bar, he built a career in finance, earned an MBA from Columbia Business School, explored the entertainment business in New York and Los Angeles, worked as a sommelier and bartender, and spent more than a year living aboard a sailboat in Marina del Rey.
Vincze grew up in the Dallas suburbs, with his Vanderbilt athletics biography identifying his hometown as Plano, Texas. He attended Plano West Senior High School before enrolling at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, where he studied from 2015 to 2019. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, with minors in History and Financial Economics. Vanderbilt was also an important part of his athletic life: Vincze competed for the university’s men’s cross-country team for four years, earned multiple SEC Academic Honor Roll recognitions, was named the team’s Newcomer of the Year in 2015 and was listed as its MVP for 2017–2018. In his senior season he led Vanderbilt at the 2018 SEC Championships, finishing 40th in the field with an 8K time of 24:03.4. He later became President of the Vanderbilt University Cross Country and Track and Field Alumni Association, beginning in March 2023.
After Vanderbilt, Vincze moved to the Washington, D.C. area and entered finance. From 2019 through 2022 he worked at MidCap Financial, a subsidiary of Apollo Global, first as a Financial Analyst and later as an Associate in the Portfolio Management Group. His work included managing a roughly $500 million portfolio of senior-secured credit facilities across industries including healthcare, food services, logistics and energy. He was also involved in launching and managing a roughly $400 million franchise-finance business line, including exposure to quick-service restaurant operators during the disruption of the COVID-19 period. Vincze has described these years more broadly as approximately three years working in private credit.
Vincze had already secured deferred admission to Columbia Business School, allowing him to gain professional experience before starting the program. He attended Columbia from 2022 to 2024, graduating with an MBA focused on Finance, Media and Entertainment. He was a Glen Hubbard Scholar, Peer Advisor and Chazen Institute International Business Fellow. His coursework included Business of Television, Brand Management, Strategy Consulting Projects in Media and Media Policy, while his extracurricular activities included the Media Management Association, CBS Follies, Gourmet, Arts Society, Club Lacrosse and the CBS Spirits Club. He also served as a student contact for a Chazen study tour to Australia focused on sustainable food, beverage and agriculture.
During business school, Vincze explored the media and entertainment industries. He worked as a Business Operations Student Associate at Madison Square Garden Entertainment during the 2023–2024 academic year, where his work involved data and analytics strategy across business operations, consumer insights, digital analytics and partnership analytics for MSG Entertainment and MSG Sports properties. In summer 2023, he was a Business Development Apprentice at Creative Artists Agency in Los Angeles, working with a venture-incubator team on celebrity-led consumer businesses and conducting market research in sectors including food, beverage, beauty, apparel and consumer technology. He also completed United Talent Agency’s Agent Training Program as a virtual extern in May 2023. At the time, Vincze was seriously considering a future in film financing.
His career eventually shifted decisively toward hospitality. After moving west, Vincze began selling wine in a restaurant, later working as a sommelier and bartender in California. He holds WSET Level 2 sommelier certification. During this period he lived for roughly 15 months aboard a 38-foot Catalina sailboat in Marina del Rey, learning to sail and spending weekends on Santa Monica Bay. That boat was named Andiamo, and its name and nautical character later became the inspiration for his New York bar.
By 2025, Vincze was considering leaving a consulting role for something more entrepreneurial. After a trip to Europe with his mother for her birthday, he found a New York coffee-shop/bar concept for sale and decided to take the plunge. He returned to New York in January 2026, took over the former Stella & Fly space on the Upper East Side and spent approximately three months personally working on the build-out. He has said that during the process he was even sleeping on the basement floor. Bar Andiamo opened on April 22, 2026, operating as an all-day neighborhood café and bar serving coffee as well as wine, beer and cocktails, with martinis an especially prominent part of its identity. Vincze has described his goal as creating a relaxed home-away-from-home for the neighborhood.
Vincze’s interests extend well beyond finance and hospitality. At Vanderbilt he worked with WRVU Independent Radio from 2016 to 2019 as an outreach coordinator, radio host and staff writer, hosting weekly programming and writing material about music, culture and history. He volunteered with the Sundance Film Festival in 2019 in ticket sales and ushering for documentary feature films. His other listed interests include *piloting, national parks, cinema, Jeopardy!, record collecting, homebrewing and film photography*. He has also listed intermediate Python skills and certifications in Bloomberg Market Concepts and Google Analytics.
