About Today’s Final Jeopardy – Wednesday, 19 June 2024

Launched in 1978, Polo by Ralph Lauren marked a significant entry into the fragrance market, encapsulating the essence of the preppy, affluent lifestyle that Ralph Lauren’s brand had become synonymous with. The cologne was introduced as part of a broader effort to expand the designer’s offerings beyond clothing, aiming to capture the entire lifestyle of its target demographic. Polo cologne, with its distinctive green bottle and gold cap, quickly became iconic, distinguished by its rich, earthy blend of tobacco, wood, and leather notes, evoking the outdoor, sporty vibe of polo matches. This scent aimed to embody the sophistication and classic style of the American upper class, resonating with consumers who aspired to that type of elegance and sporty grace.

The use of the polo player on horseback as the logo for this cologne was a strategic branding choice by Ralph Lauren. Polo, the sport, has long been associated with a world of luxury, heritage, and tradition, qualities that Lauren wished to reflect in his brand identity. This imagery helped to solidify the connection between Ralph Lauren’s fashion line and an aspirational lifestyle, promoting an image of accessible luxury. The launch of Polo cologne not only reinforced this branding but also helped to diversify the Ralph Lauren portfolio, establishing the company as a multi-dimensional lifestyle brand rather than just a fashion label. Over the years, Polo has grown into a flagship scent for the brand, spawning multiple spin-offs and variations, each continuing to draw on the themes of tradition and classic Americana that the original so successfully captured.

Watch all the videos from today’s Jeopardy episode below, including highlights, behind the scenes outtakes and full episodes.

Final Jeopardy is the final round of the popular American television game show Jeopardy!, in which participants test their knowledge in numerous areas by answering questions. In Final Jeopardy, participants are given a single clue and must wager a percentage of their existing earnings based on their confidence in their ability to successfully respond.

Each contestant surreptitiously writes down their wager during the commercial break. The Final Jeopardy clue is presented when the programme resumes, and participants have 30 seconds to write down their solution in the form of a question (e.g., “What is…?”). When the timer runs out, the host, reveals each contestant’s response and wager in ascending order of their pre-Final Jeopardy scores. The scores of contestants are adjusted based on whether their response is correct or incorrect, as well as the amount wagered. At the end of the round, the contestant with the highest score is proclaimed the winner.
