Jennifer LaFleur is a Washington, D.C.–based investigative data journalist, editor, and educator whose career spans leading roles at several major investigative news organizations. She currently serves as Assistant Professor of Data Journalism at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism and previously worked as data editor for The Investigative Reporting Workshop, where she joined in 2017. Her professional background includes senior editorial positions at Reveal from The Center for Investigative Reporting, the Center for Public Integrity, ProPublica, and The Dallas Morning News. Over her career she has managed award-winning teams, contributed to major investigative projects, including a Pulitzer Prize finalist, and helped shape data journalism practices across newsrooms worldwide. Jennifer is deeply involved in journalism leadership through service on boards such as the Fund for Investigative Journalism and the advisory board for the National Center for Disability and Journalism. She is an internationally active trainer who has taught thousands of reporters in data and investigative skills. She holds a master’s degree from the Missouri School of Journalism and a bachelor’s degree in computer science and journalism from Benedictine College. Her work includes teaching, conference speaking, and hosting training courses on mapping, analysis, and the evolution of data journalism.
