Paul Wenzel Jeopardy Contestant Profile
Paul Wenzel is a multi-instrumentalist singer and songwriter best known as the creative force behind WIREHOUND. Originally from New York and now residing in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Paul built his musical identity over years of writing, performing, and collaborating with an ensemble of gifted musicians. His work blends personal experience with rich instrumentation, supported by a team that includes guitarist Rick Birmingham, pianist and keyboardist Eben Seaman, guitarist and producer Corey Zack, vocalist Dana Hermann, and drummer Jason Reddish. Together, they form the backbone of WIREHOUND and help bring Paul’s compositions to life.
Paul’s career has been marked by resilience. In 2006, while recording what was expected to be his breakthrough album “sleep all day,” he experienced a devastating loss, which forced him to step away from music for an extended period. In 2014, he re-formed WIREHOUND to revive his artistic dreams, but soon after, tragedy struck again. Paul suffered a severe accident that left him disabled and living with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, one of the most painful conditions known in medicine. As the condition progressed, he lost the ability to stand or hold a guitar, leaving the future of his music uncertain.
A turning point arrived when a renowned CRPS specialist relocated to Paul’s town. With months of evaluation, major surgery, and two years of intense physical therapy, Paul gradually regained his ability to pursue music. He later recorded WIREHOUND’s long-awaited debut album, “the anatomy of a thought undone,” at Corey Zack’s Cocoon studio in Jersey City, accompanied by his close collaborators, as well as talented horn and string musicians. After a year and a half of effort, the album was completed and released across streaming platforms.
WIREHOUND plans to return to the studio in 2026 to record the follow-up to their acclaimed debut, marking another milestone in Paul’s remarkable journey of determination, healing, and artistic renewal.
