In 1914, the vaccine for whooping cough, also known as pertussis, a highly contagious respiratory tract infection characterised by a violent cough that sounds like a “whoop,” was produced.

The whooping cough vaccine was coupled with diphtheria and tetanus vaccines created in 1926 and 1938, respectively. The DPT vaccination or DTP vaccine, a combination vaccine, was created in 1948.
