Ben Chan is an assistant professor of philosophy at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin, having joined the faculty in 2013. His academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts from Swarthmore College and a Ph.D. from the University of California-Los Angeles. Further enriching his expertise, Chan completed a postdoctoral fellowship in bioethics at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, and held the position of Uihlein Fellow of Ethics at Lawrence University.
Born and raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Chan is of Chinese descent, with parents who immigrated from Hong Kong and Guangdong in the late 1960s. They met in New York City, where they started a restaurant together. Chan’s personal interests include a profound love for dogs, and he is the proud owner of two rescue dogs.
A notable moment in Chan’s life outside of academia was winning a pub trivia contest against Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, showcasing his quick wit and broad knowledge. This accomplishment, among others, emphasizes his engaging personality and diverse interests beyond the philosophical disciplines he teaches.
