About Today’s Final Jeopardy – Monday, 18 December 2023

In 2016, the Stonewall National Monument in New York City was established, encompassing the vicinity of Christopher Park. This monument bears the name of the Stonewall Inn, a place of great historical significance for the LGBTQ+ rights movement.

President Barack Obama took the official step of designating the area encompassing the Stonewall Inn and Christopher Park as the Stonewall National Monument in that same year. This designation marked a significant milestone as it became the first U.S. National Monument dedicated to the history and rights of the LGBTQ+ community.

Situated in the Greenwich Village neighborhood, the Stonewall Inn is a notable bar that gained its historical prominence in the wake of the Stonewall Riots of 1969. These riots, characterized by spontaneous and forceful demonstrations by members of the LGBTQ+ community in response to a police raid, are recognized as a pivotal moment in the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement.

Adjacent to the Stonewall Inn, Christopher Park is a modest public park located in Greenwich Village. It emerged as a gathering place for the LGBTQ+ community, particularly during and after the events of the Stonewall Riots. Within the park, there are sculptures that serve as memorials to honor the LGBTQ+ community and commemorate the ongoing struggle for LGBTQ+ rights.

Watch all the videos from today’s Jeopardy episode below, including highlights, behind the scenes outtakes and full episodes.

Final Jeopardy is the final round of the popular American television game show Jeopardy!, in which participants test their knowledge in numerous areas by answering questions. In Final Jeopardy, participants are given a single clue and must wager a percentage of their existing earnings based on their confidence in their ability to successfully respond.

Each contestant surreptitiously writes down their wager during the commercial break. The Final Jeopardy clue is presented when the programme resumes, and participants have 30 seconds to write down their solution in the form of a question (e.g., “What is…?”). When the timer runs out, the host, reveals each contestant’s response and wager in ascending order of their pre-Final Jeopardy scores. The scores of contestants are adjusted based on whether their response is correct or incorrect, as well as the amount wagered. At the end of the round, the contestant with the highest score is proclaimed the winner.
