Jareesa Tucker McClure Jeopardy Contestant Profile

Jareesa Tucker McClure is an entrepreneur, program manager, strategy and operations leader, former chemist and writer based in the Atlanta, Georgia metropolitan area. She appears on Jeopardy! Season 43, where she is introduced as an Entrepreneur & Program Manager from Atlanta. Her career has been unusually varied, beginning in laboratory chemistry before developing into more than a decade of work spanning supply chain, retail operations, project and program management, strategy, analytics, leadership and organizational change.

McClure is originally from Michigan. Science was a major interest from childhood, and by eighth grade she had decided that she wanted to become an engineer. She entered the University of Minnesota intending to study engineering but discovered after beginning engineering coursework that she was much more interested in understanding chemical reactions themselves. She consequently changed direction and concentrated on chemistry, particularly polymer chemistry. Her undergraduate years included laboratory internships and independent research.

She later pursued additional scientific research at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where her work included the synthesis and characterization of semifluoroalkoxy-substituted poly(paraphenyleneethylene)s under research adviser Dr. David Collard. She participated in the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE) and Alpha Chi Sigma, the professional chemistry fraternity.

McClure initially pursued chemistry professionally, working as a laboratory chemist. Her scientific training provided a foundation in analytical thinking, troubleshooting, technical writing and evidence-based problem solving, but she ultimately decided that a traditional laboratory career was not the right long-term fit. That decision produced a significant career change when she joined Target in 2012, moving from laboratory science into retail and business operations.

What began as a major career pivot turned into a 13-year career with Target. McClure initially worked in supply chain analytics, spending approximately two years as a supply chain analyst, including about 15 months working on Target Canada. She subsequently moved into a Senior Business Partner role in Store Operations, where she functioned as a process owner, project manager and analyst on initiatives affecting Target stores.

Over the following years, McClure continued expanding into enterprise strategy and operations, program and project leadership, supply chain and call-center operations. Her scientific background remained relevant: she has explained that skills learned as a chemist—critical thinking, logical problem solving, troubleshooting and analyzing evidence—continued to influence her business career. She added business and technical capabilities including SQL, Six Sigma, project management and supply-chain methodologies.

McClure eventually became a senior strategy and operations leader, with more than a decade of experience managing enterprise projects and organizational initiatives. She left Target in 2026 after approximately 13 years with the company, describing the organization as having given her opportunities to apply her abilities in areas she never initially expected to enter, particularly supply chain and call-center operations.

Her professional development has extended beyond her university education. In 2023, McClure completed the Women’s Leadership Program through Executive Education at the Yale School of Management. In July 2024, she earned a Change Management certification from Cornell University. Mentorship has also become an important part of her professional identity, and she has offered career mentoring to people navigating transitions and professional development.

McClure is also an experienced freelance and personal essay writer. She has written extensively about careers, money, marriage, motherhood, race, workplace culture and professional identity, including work for A Practical Wedding, The Billfold and other publications. Her writing frequently draws upon her own experiences, including changing careers from chemistry to corporate operations, being a Black woman in corporate America, navigating socioeconomic mobility, marriage and becoming a mother.

Community building has been another important part of her life. While living in the Twin Cities, McClure and a friend started the Black Professional Social Network, which grew to approximately 1,000 members. The organization was designed to help Black professionals make social and professional connections in Minnesota, organizing activities including brunches, dinners, movies and outdoor events. McClure spoke publicly about the challenges professionals of color could encounter when trying to build community and advance professionally in the Twin Cities.

McClure is a Black American woman who has written openly about her experiences with race and gender in professional environments. Her essays have explored being the only person of color on a corporate team, receiving workplace feedback as a Black woman and the broader challenges facing Black professionals. She has also written about the elevated maternal-health risks facing Black women in the United States, drawing on her own experience of pregnancy and motherhood.

Her family has featured prominently in her personal writing. McClure is married and has a daughter. She and her husband chose Pi Day for their wedding date and financed their wedding themselves. She wrote during her first pregnancy about how dramatically her feelings toward parenthood had changed: although she had previously envisioned an adult life without children, she became enthusiastic about becoming a mother during her pregnancy.

McClure grew up in a middle-class Michigan household with her siblings. Both of her parents held professional jobs in state government, and she has written about growing up in the same three-bedroom, one-bathroom house throughout her childhood. She has credited her parents with instilling values around education, employment, saving money and financial caution. Her mother was an enthusiastic thrift shopper, an influence McClure has said carried into her own approach to spending.

Outside her professional and writing careers, McClure is an enthusiastic knitter. Her interests have expanded into other hands-on creative pursuits, including bread making, container gardening and hydroponic gardening. Making things by hand has become an important creative outlet alongside the highly analytical and strategic work that has characterized much of her professional life.
