Sophia Suazo is an American early childhood education leader, licensing manager, and education administrator originally from Plainview, New York, who has built her career in the San Francisco Bay Area. She currently serves as Co-Early Care and Education Director at the Felton Institute in San Francisco, California, a position she has held since October 2025 after previously working as the organization’s Early Care and Education Program Supervisor beginning in January 2023. Her career spans more than 15 years across childcare leadership, education, business operations, staff development, licensing compliance, and program administration. As a contestant on Jeopardy!, she was identified as a Licensing Manager from Plainview, New York, reflecting her professional expertise in childcare licensing and regulatory compliance.

Before joining the Felton Institute, Suazo worked as Childcare Director and Business Operations Manager at Meaningful Beginnings, overseeing the daily operations of two childcare centers in San Francisco. In this leadership role, she supervised staffing, ensured compliance with California licensing regulations, maintained state-mandated teacher-to-child ratios, approved budgets and purchases, managed payroll and financial reporting, coordinated with accountants and contractors, oversaw recruitment and hiring, organized professional development for staff, conducted family tours and enrollment, communicated with parents regarding policies and billing, prepared newsletters and exposure notices, maintained human resources records, and coordinated facility maintenance and vendor relationships.

She also served as Toddler Acting Head Teacher at the ASI Early Childhood Education Center, Infant Teacher at The Lands End School, Teachers Aide in an after-school enrichment program, Guest Services Personnel for the San Francisco Giants for more than eight years, and Bank Teller at Wells Fargo Bank. Throughout these roles she accumulated experience in customer service, education, classroom leadership, curriculum development, business operations, financial services, and public engagement.

Academically, Suazo earned a Master of Arts in Special Education from San Francisco State University in 2021 after completing a Bachelor of Arts in Child and Adolescent Development (Early Childhood Education) at the same university. She previously studied Child Development & Family Studies and Liberal Arts & Science at City College of San Francisco. She has since completed a Master of Public Health (MPH), describing the achievement as the culmination of years of dedication and a commitment to improving the health and well-being of women, children, adolescents, and families. She has stated that earning the degree was motivated not only by professional growth but also by her desire to set a positive example for her two young children, emphasizing lifelong learning, service, and community leadership.

Professionally, Suazo holds the California Child Development Program Director Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and is also a Fully Certified Trainer for the Program for Infant Toddler Care (PITC). She is multilingual, speaking English, Tagalog, and Cebuano, reflecting her Filipino heritage.
