About Today’s Final Jeopardy – Wednesday, 6 December 2023

The 2003 movie “Seabiscuit” chronicles the remarkable journey of the eponymous racehorse. According to his 1947 obituary, Seabiscuit fathered over 100 foals and passed away from a heart attack at 14 years old on a ranch in California.

Seabiscuit, born in 1933, didn’t initially show promise as a racing champion due to his modest size and seemingly lackadaisical nature. Nonetheless, under the tutelage of trainer Tom Smith and jockey Red Pollard, Seabiscuit’s hidden capabilities were uncovered.

Gaining widespread acclaim, Seabiscuit astonished many by consistently outperforming more favored contenders. Renowned for his tenacious competitive drive and impressive acceleration in race finals, Seabiscuit’s most memorable triumph was his 1938 face-off with War Admiral, the then Triple Crown champion, at Pimlico Race Course.

During the challenging era of the Great Depression, Seabiscuit emerged as a symbol of hope and resilience. His unexpected victories and impressive track career not only inspired a nation but also earned him a celebrated spot in cultural and sports history, with his story being told through various books, movies, and other forms of media.

Final Jeopardy is the final round of the popular American television game show Jeopardy!, in which participants test their knowledge in numerous areas by answering questions. In Final Jeopardy, participants are given a single clue and must wager a percentage of their existing earnings based on their confidence in their ability to successfully respond.

Each contestant surreptitiously writes down their wager during the commercial break. The Final Jeopardy clue is presented when the programme resumes, and participants have 30 seconds to write down their solution in the form of a question (e.g., “What is…?”). When the timer runs out, the host, reveals each contestant’s response and wager in ascending order of their pre-Final Jeopardy scores. The scores of contestants are adjusted based on whether their response is correct or incorrect, as well as the amount wagered. At the end of the round, the contestant with the highest score is proclaimed the winner.
