About Today’s Final Jeopardy – Thursday, 29 February 2024

Launched on November 14, 1994, the Eurostar high-speed train service marked a transformative development in the way people travel between the United Kingdom and continental Europe. By offering direct routes from London to Paris and Brussels via the Channel Tunnel, a remarkable feat of engineering that burrows under the English Channel, the Eurostar significantly enhanced the convenience of cross-Channel travel. This innovation not only represented a leap forward in transportation technology but also a step towards greater European unity, making it easier than ever for individuals to move freely between some of Europe’s key cities for both business and leisure purposes.

Drawing inspiration from the historic Etoile du Nord, which provided a luxurious connection between Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam starting in 1927, the Eurostar similarly aims to epitomize European rail travel’s prestige and efficiency. Like its predecessor, the Eurostar has become synonymous with comfort, speed, and the promotion of environmental sustainability, offering an attractive alternative to air travel. As the service expanded, incorporating more destinations like Amsterdam, Lille, and Lyon, it further solidified its role in knitting together diverse regions of Europe. The Eurostar not only facilitates physical travel but also serves as a bridge between cultures, enhancing mutual understanding and cooperation among European nations.

Watch all the videos from today’s Jeopardy episode below, including highlights, behind the scenes outtakes and full episodes.

Final Jeopardy is the final round of the popular American television game show Jeopardy!, in which participants test their knowledge in numerous areas by answering questions. In Final Jeopardy, participants are given a single clue and must wager a percentage of their existing earnings based on their confidence in their ability to successfully respond.

Each contestant surreptitiously writes down their wager during the commercial break. The Final Jeopardy clue is presented when the programme resumes, and participants have 30 seconds to write down their solution in the form of a question (e.g., “What is…?”). When the timer runs out, the host, reveals each contestant’s response and wager in ascending order of their pre-Final Jeopardy scores. The scores of contestants are adjusted based on whether their response is correct or incorrect, as well as the amount wagered. At the end of the round, the contestant with the highest score is proclaimed the winner.
