About Today’s Final Jeopardy – Friday, 19 July 2024
Sacagawea, a Lemhi Shoshone woman who played a pivotal role as a guide and interpreter for the Lewis and Clark Expedition in the early 1800s, is commemorated with more statues than any other American woman, according to the National Park Service. These statues often depict her in the act of guiding Lewis and Clark, with her infant son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, strapped to her back. Sacagawea’s involvement in the expedition was crucial, as she helped the team navigate through the terrain, gather edible plants, and establish diplomatic relations with various Native American tribes.
The numerous statues and monuments dedicated to Sacagawea across the United States are a testament to her significant impact on American history. These monuments not only celebrate her contributions to the Lewis and Clark expedition but also symbolize her strength and the vital role that Native American people played in exploring and settling the American West. Sacagawea’s presence in these sculptures, often portrayed as calm and determined, highlights her importance as a cultural icon and a symbol of peace and guidance. Through these public artworks, her legacy continues to inspire generations with her story of bravery, survival, and instrumental assistance in one of America’s most famous exploratory missions.

Final Jeopardy is the final round of the popular American television game show Jeopardy!, in which participants test their knowledge in numerous areas by answering questions. In Final Jeopardy, participants are given a single clue and must wager a percentage of their existing earnings based on their confidence in their ability to successfully respond.
Each contestant surreptitiously writes down their wager during the commercial break. The Final Jeopardy clue is presented when the programme resumes, and participants have 30 seconds to write down their solution in the form of a question (e.g., “What is…?”). When the timer runs out, the host, reveals each contestant’s response and wager in ascending order of their pre-Final Jeopardy scores. The scores of contestants are adjusted based on whether their response is correct or incorrect, as well as the amount wagered. At the end of the round, the contestant with the highest score is proclaimed the winner.
