ANSWER: Raphael
About Today’s Final Jeopardy – Monday, 26 February 2024
The profound admiration the Royal Academy of Arts held for Raphael, and particularly for his artwork “La Fornarina,” significantly impacted the artistic community in the 1800s. Raphael, renowned for his contributions during the High Renaissance, was revered for his harmonious compositions and the portrayal of classical beauty, as seen in “La Fornarina,” which depicts the portrait of a baker’s daughter, rumored to be his beloved and muse.
In response to the Royal Academy’s strict classical and Renaissance standards, centered significantly around Raphael’s artistic principles, some artists during the 19th century felt compelled to seek inspiration from eras preceding Raphael’s dominance. They turned towards Gothic, medieval, or early Renaissance motifs, aiming to discover an artistic language that diverged from the ideals imposed by the Academy. This search for alternative sources of inspiration led to the creation of new artistic movements, notably the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. This group explicitly opposed the Royal Academy’s emphasis on Raphael, advocating for a return to what they viewed as the more authentic and heartfelt art that predated Raphael’s influence.

Final Jeopardy is the final round of the popular American television game show Jeopardy!, in which participants test their knowledge in numerous areas by answering questions. In Final Jeopardy, participants are given a single clue and must wager a percentage of their existing earnings based on their confidence in their ability to successfully respond.
Each contestant surreptitiously writes down their wager during the commercial break. The Final Jeopardy clue is presented when the programme resumes, and participants have 30 seconds to write down their solution in the form of a question (e.g., “What is…?”). When the timer runs out, the host, reveals each contestant’s response and wager in ascending order of their pre-Final Jeopardy scores. The scores of contestants are adjusted based on whether their response is correct or incorrect, as well as the amount wagered. At the end of the round, the contestant with the highest score is proclaimed the winner.
