About Today’s Final Jeopardy – Tuesday, 10 September 2024
The symbols you are referring to are the Red Cross and the Red Crescent, which are used by the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. In 2005, at a diplomatic conference, a third emblem was added called the “Red Crystal.” This new symbol was introduced primarily to provide a neutral alternative to the Red Cross and Red Crescent, especially in situations where these emblems might be perceived as having religious connotations.
The Red Cross is traditionally a reversal of the Swiss flag (a white cross on a red background), honoring Switzerland, where the original convention was held. The Red Crescent was later adopted by some nations as an alternative to the Red Cross, perceived to be more representative of Islamic countries. The addition of the Red Crystal, a diamond-shaped symbol devoid of any cultural, religious, or political connotations, was intended to enhance the universality and neutrality of the humanitarian mission carried out by these organizations. It allows countries and societies that find the cross or crescent culturally sensitive to use an alternative that retains the protective power granted under international humanitarian law.

Final Jeopardy is the final round of the popular American television game show Jeopardy!, in which participants test their knowledge in numerous areas by answering questions. In Final Jeopardy, participants are given a single clue and must wager a percentage of their existing earnings based on their confidence in their ability to successfully respond.
Each contestant surreptitiously writes down their wager during the commercial break. The Final Jeopardy clue is presented when the programme resumes, and participants have 30 seconds to write down their solution in the form of a question (e.g., “What is…?”). When the timer runs out, the host, reveals each contestant’s response and wager in ascending order of their pre-Final Jeopardy scores. The scores of contestants are adjusted based on whether their response is correct or incorrect, as well as the amount wagered. At the end of the round, the contestant with the highest score is proclaimed the winner.
